manonglovefrontpagewebsitecroppedThe key challenge when running and Energy Efficiency project is to focus your attention on the key areas to find savings. For many this approach has centred on activity around the controlled environment such as new lighting system or building upgrades.  This is a natural instinct as these items can be ’seen’ to use energy, they are visible energy day in your workplace.

Whilst good in their intentions, capital investments like these can have a problem that they are less likely to  deliver the savings without an understanding of how you use your kit. In other words you focus on how your staff behave towards energy usage, after all there’s no point investing in kit that is misused or overridden.

GAIAs experience has shown that even modern factories can harbour wastage as a result of staff dis-engagement and dis-empowerment. The key to any energy efficiency programme is to consider ‘How’ you use your kit and ‘How’ you can use it better.  By focusing on the ‘How’,  It is likely you can find significant savings with less large scale capital investments or if you do make large investment an empowered workforce will improve the return on investment.
